The Garden’s membership program is inspired by the important role members play at the Garden, the need for membership dollars to fund our expanding work, and the ways members like to experience our three venues.

With this in mind, we are making some updates to our membership program. Our aim is to offer valuable benefits while responsibly raising vital contributions that fund nearly one quarter of our activities here at home and around the world.

The changes below—including donation adjustments at select levels, revised policies for tax deductibility, and enhancements to our Giving Societies—take effect on August 1, 2019. All gifts made prior to that date are not affected by these changes, and current members do not need to do anything until the time of renewal. If you would like to renew before August 1 at current giving levels, we will add a full 12 months to your membership term.

All of us at the Garden are grateful to be able to rely on your support. By supporting the Garden through membership, you make so much possible. Please contact membership@mobot.org or (314) 577-5118 for more information.

Membership contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Effective August 1, 2019, the Missouri Botanical Garden has determined that only certain membership levels will continue to be 100% tax-deductible. Those levels include the Individual, Garden, and Friends and Family levels. At higher levels, the fair market value of tangible benefits affects deductibility.

Member Level Tax Deductible Amount
$225 Festival (formerly $195) $57
$500 President's Contributor (formerly $350) $276
$1,000 President's Circle $710
$1,500 Henry Shaw Associate $1,110
$2,500 Henry Shaw Fellow $2,110
$5,000 Henry Shaw Ambassador $4,595

You may elect to decline tangible benefits when making your gift for a full tax deduction. To do so, please indicate in writing that you wish to waive benefits when making your gift.

As a nonprofit organization, the Missouri Botanical Garden is eligible to receive matching gifts from companies whose employees and retirees make contributions to the Garden, provided that the Garden fits within those companies’ own matching criteria. Please check with your human resources department to initiate a matching gift.

As of August 1, 2019, for memberships at the Festival level and higher, only the tax-deductible portion of any gift can be matched, and those matching gifts funds will be treated as a donation only. Matching gift funds will no longer be used to upgrade a membership to a higher level. This change is in accordance with many corporate-giving guidelines that state that donors may not receive any tangible benefits from the match of their gift.
