For immediate release – This fall, the Missouri Botanical Garden is offering free access tours and classes specially designed for the disability community.
The Garden has been working with disability experts for several years to curate inclusive programming, initially partnering with the Alzheimer's Association Greater Missouri Chapter to offer specialized tours to those experiencing memory loss and their families.
This fall, the Garden will be offering tours of the Garden with both American Sign Lanaguage and audio description interpretation, as well as tours for those with memory loss. Shaw Nature Reserve in Gray Summit will be offering an American Sign Language interpreted hike through its fall foliage and a low-sensory night hike.
“Our goal is to provide opportunities where everyone can experience engaging and meaningful visits to the Garden regardless of their disability,” said Jennifer Smith-Simms, Manager of Public Education Program for the Garden.
Registration begins August 1 for these tours and all fall classes at the Missouri Botanical Garden, Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House and Shaw Nature Reserve. To ensure a quality experience for all participants, attendance is limited and prior registration is required.
