Go Behind the Scenes of the Missouri Botanical Garden at the Science and Sustainability Open House

(ST. LOUIS): Join us for a special behind-the-scenes look at the Missouri Botanical Garden at our annual Science and Sustainability Open House.
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Please note that the event will take place on one day only this year. Don’t miss your chance to see these rarely-seen Garden sites!
At the Monsanto Research Center, you can meet our scientists, including some of the botanists who named and described nearly 200 new species in 2018, and learn about their research activities. Visit one of the largest herbarium collections in the world, with more than 7 million pressed and dried plant specimens gathered from around the globe and dating back to the 1700s. Explore the Peter H. Raven Library and see rare and beautifully illustrated botanical texts, some over 400 years old and still used today. Talk with our librarians and book conservator about how they manage, protect, and repair our books. Learn how Garden scientists discover, study, and work to conserve plants locally and around the world.
At EarthWays Center, you can learn about the Garden’s community sustainability programs by connecting with their staff at the Commerce Bank Center for Science Education. Meet the team that educates and connects people with more than 20 programs in the community. Discover how the Garden is making St. Louis greener, with environmental classes and programs for schools, businesses, individuals, and families. There will be plenty to do for all ages. Interact with the BiodiverseCity game, learn “how to green your school,” or take the reduce-reuse-recycle plastic bag quiz. Hands-on activities will include a sustainability scavenger hunt, make and take herbal sachets, and DIY upcycling with our friends from Perennial.
The two buildings are across the street from each other. You can park at the Garden or at either of the two sites–then walk to both places. Both events are free and open to the public.
