Chemical Action and Usages: Mach 2 (active ingredient halofenozide) belongs to a molt-accelerating compound that targets the insect's own body chemistry. Mach 2 is used to control cutworms, sod webworms, armyworms and grubs in turf, but its primary use is for grub control. Mach 2 mimics hormones that cause the insect to shed its exoskeleton prematurely, consequently disrupting the natural process of metamorphosis. Within hours of ingesting Mach 2, the target larvae stop feeding and die beneath the surface 2-3 weeks later. It is best applied as a preventative treatment, so application should be made to historically troublesome areas of turf prior to egg hatch. It will, however, work up through the second instar. One application lasts through the peak months of the season (season long). Mach 2 is not dependent on immediate irrigation for activation (except during periods of drought) but best results are obtained by applying ½" to 1" of water within 24 hours of application.
