Winter hardy to USDA Zone 11 where it is best grown in consistently moist but well-drained soils in part shade. Intolerant of frost. May be grown indoors as a houseplant near windows with bright but indirect or filtered sun.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Clusia orthoneurais an epiphytic shrub native to tropical areas of South America. It typically grows to 4-8' tall. It produces air roots which enable the plant to climb over other plants. Ovate leathery leaves (to 4-6" long). Pink and red flowers bloom at the branch tips throughout the year.
Genus name honors botanist Charles de l'Ecluse (d. 1609). Clusius was his Latinized name.
Specific epithet means with straight veins.

No serious insect or disease problems.
Uses
Garden specimen where winter hardy. Good houseplant.
