Best grown in evenly moist, well-draining soils in full sun to part shade. Hardy in Zones 10-11. Will appreciate some afternoon shade in hot summer climates.
Noteworthy Characteristics
Alternanthera is a genus made up of around 200 species of herbaceous annuals and perennials. They have a widespread distribution but the highest diversity occurs in the tropical Americas.
Genus name comes from the Latin words alternans meaning "alternating" and anthera meaning "anther", in reference to alternate anthers in the genus are barren.
PLUM DANDY is a hybrid alternanthera that features purple foliage and a low, compact, well-branched growth habit. It is primarily grown for its showy foliage rather than floral display. Mature plants will reach 10-16" tall and spread to fill a 12-20" area.
